Today I’ve had another exciting day. It may not be a long update, but the results are really good.
The past few days my wife has been helping me source parts for he Jeep YJ. We’ve looked at Craigslist, Ebay, and a host of other sites. We’re primarily focused on used parts because they are significantly less expensive than buying new. In our search we located a place about 2 hour drive away that is actually closing up shop and selling off everything they have. Since the guy is a Jeep salvage yard I’m thinking we have a lot of potential to rack up on some parts.
After church this morning we grabbed the trailer and headed out. Spirits were high as I was off to find possibly a new transmission, a power steering reservoir, an air intake box, a fuse panel cover, and a few other odds and ends. Thanks much to the mystery of the GPS we arrived without issue about 2 hours later. We immediately went to work asking for parts and looking around for things we hadn’t thought about that we probably would need. An hour or so later and we had found some good items but not exactly the items we came in search of when we left earlier in the day. Nevertheless we got a great deal. All totaled we got the items below for the total of $100 cash:
- Hood
- Sport Rollbar (more about why this later)
- Dashpad (actually got the full dash)
- Fuse box cover (that ultimately didn’t fit, but was worth the try)
Many thanks to my wife for suggesting a few of the parts that weren’t on my list.
We headed back home and unloaded as I admired the progress so far. On my list of parts still needed are:
- Air Cleaner Box
- Fuse Panel Cover
- Power Steering Reservoir
- Tub (or lots of repair panels)
- Tailgate
- Transmission
- Leaf Springs & Shocks (front & rear)
- Windshield Wipers and Arms
- Half doors
- Soft top with bow/hardware/door surrounds/uppers
